At a glance
- Import ease (where verified): Process documented; 25-year treatment not stated in the sources read. Import page requires DOT and EPA stickers or equivalent documents and does not address the 25-year exemption.
- Kei / mini-truck: Official source describes a kei / mini-truck title or registration path. Nebraska DMV has a Minitruck title category (statutory definition: engine ≤1,500 cc, ≤67 in. wide, ≤4,200 lb dry weight, hauling bed, enclosed cab, listed equipment); title at the County Treasurer within 30 days of purchase.
What the official sources say
- Nebraska DMV, Imported Vehicles: submit to the County Treasurer the current foreign registration and/or bill of sale, an MSO (equivalents: Canada NVIS, Europe EC Certificate of Conformity), and import papers as proof of legal entry: U.S. Customs Form 7501, EPA Form 3520-8 or 3520-1, and DOT Form HS-7. 'All imported vehicles must have DOT and EPA stickers affixed as evidence of their compliance'; the documents are also evidence, and a vehicle inspection may be required. A U.S. military base registration is not proof of ownership unless it also serves as a certificate of title.

If there is no manufacturer's identification number an Assigned ID Number application is needed first.

Not verified (do not rely on ImportClock for these)
- The import page requires DOT and EPA stickers; it does not say how a vehicle imported under the 25-year exemption (which has none) is treated. Nebraska's DMV phone line for imports is 402-471-3918.
- Whether a particular kei vehicle meets the minitruck definition (for example the top-speed and transmission lines) was not verified, and the minitruck page was not read for emissions or insurance rules.
- Minitruck registration fee and road rules were not verified from the pages read.
